Christmas wreaths, roasted chestnuts, hot cider, music, squash, apples, homemade meats and cheeses, eggnog, an assortment of harvest fruits and nuts, and all sorts of breads and jams . Sounds good, doesn’t it? It might not come to mind when you get ready to do your holiday or even your every day grocery shopping, but there are farmer’s markets open throughout the winter season all across the chicago area - from Logan Square, which holds indoor farmer’s markets at the Congress theatre, to Green City Farmer’s Market, which moves into the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in the winter months, to a new December farmers market in Ukrainian village. Almost every Chicago neighborhood has some sort of winter farmer’s market nearby this year. You’ll not only find delicious local food to serve for your holiday meals, but handmade local gifts, too. A few good websites for winter markets: localharvest.org and a website called “the dirt on green”. Have a happy LOCAL holiday!
